Jihad and its Reward

Suratun-Nisaaa’  (The Women) – Chapter – 4)

BisMillaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

73.   And if a Bounty from Allah befell you, he would surely cry, as if there had been no love between you and him: Would that I had been with them, then I would have achieved a great success.

74.   Let those fight in the Way of Allah who sell the life of the world for the sake of Hereafter. And whoso fighteth in the Way of Allah, be he slain or be he victorious, on him We shall bestow a vast reward.
73.  Wa  la-‘in  ‘asaa-bakum  fazlum-minAllaahi  la-yaquulanna  ka-‘allam  takum-baynakum  wa  bay-nahum  ma-wadda-tuny-yaalay-tanii  kuntu  ma-‘ahum  fa-‘afuuza  fawzan  ‘aziimaa.

74.  Fal-yuqaatil  fii  SabiiLillaa-hillaziina  yash-ruunal-hayaa-taddunyaa  bil-‘Aakhirah.  Wa  many-yuqaatil  fii  Sabiil-Lillaahi  fayuq-tal  ‘aw  yag-lib  fa-sawfa  nu’-tiihi  ‘ajran  ‘aziimaa.

Commentary

The command of Allah Almighty regarding preparation for Jihad and in this connection, behavior of the Hypocrites has been described in the previous verse. Allah Almighty has determined every Muslim as the Soldier of Islam and claimed that you should be ready every time to sacrifice your life in the Path of Truth. It is necessary for you to remain prepared in each condition for fighting in separate units or if there is a need of Jihad by all together. The Hypocrites will evade intentionally and prepensely, and try to refrain away from alliance in Jihad. If God forbid, you suffered, they will unfold their gladness. And if Allah Almighty bestowed His Bounty upon you, you attained victory and success, and returned with plenty of wealth, then they would surely cry and say like the strange people, as if there had been no love between you and them: Would that we had been with them (you), then we would have achieved booty, collected the riches and great success.

It is the precept of Allah Almighty that you should fight against those people in His Way, who give preference to the worldly life in retaliation of the Hereafter and like the world instead of the religion. You should not have any concern with victory or defeat, be slain or overcome. We shall bestow you a vast reward in both conditions.
