Lesson of hope - Quran Chapter 12 – 87 (Pt-13, Stg-3) (L-1535) - درس قرآن

Quran Chapter 12  87 (Pt-13, Stg-3) (L-1535) - درس قرآن

Lesson of hope

Surah Yuusuf (Joseph) - 12

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast.)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.)

يَٰبَنِىَّ ٱذْهَبُوا۟ فَتَحَسَّسُوا۟ مِن يُوسُفَ وَأَخِيهِ وَلَاتَا۟يْـَٔسُوا۟ مِن رَّوْحِ ٱللَّهِ إِنَّهُۥ لَا يَا۟يْـَٔسُ مِن رَّوْحِ ٱللَّهِ إِلَّا ٱلْقَوْمُ ٱلْكَٰفِرُونَ (87

87.  Go, O my sons, and ascertain concerning Joseph and his brother, and despair not of the Mercy of Allah. Lo! None despaireth of the Mercy of Allah save disbelieving folk.
87.  Yaa-ba-niyyaz-habuu  fata-hassa-suu  miny-Yuusufa  wa  ‘akhiihi  wa  laa  tay-‘asuu  mir-Raw-Hillaah.  ‘Innahuu  laa  yay-‘asu  mir-Raw-Hillaahi  ‘illal-qawmul-Kaafi-ruun.

Commentary

Ta-hassa-suu – (Ascertain, seek, search for), it is a word of command from the word tahassasun, which has been derived from hasasa. It means “to seek, to use all own five senses i.e. seeing, hearing, smelling etc.” tahassas means “to try and toil in ascertaining and seeking”.

Rawhun – (Mercy), actually it means “the cool breeze” by which one feels pleasure. Raw-Hillaahi means “the Mercy of Allah”.

Laa  tay-‘asuu  and  laa  yay-‘asuu, both words have come out from the same origin i.e. yaasYaas means hopelessness. Laa  tay-‘asuu is command of prohibition, that is to say, “you should not despair, be not hopeless”. Laa  yay-‘asu means “they cannot despair”. Maayuus is a famous word, origin of which is the same and it means “hopeless, desperate, disappointed etc.”

Prophet Jacob (peace be upon him) teaches to his sons that “I do not expose my distress and anguish unto any human being or imaginary helper – living or dead, save Allah Almighty. Even then, one should try one’s best, whatsoever one can do. Being hopeless and doing nothing; is not “Trust in God”.

Trust in God means that one should struggle his best
Then result of that struggle should be left on Destiny.

(Tawakul ka yeh matlab hae keh khanjar tez rakh apna
Phir os khanjar kii tezii ko muqaddar kay hawalay kar).

Therefore, you should go back and search Joseph as much as you can. Make any plan for freedom of your brother Binyamin; which you may. None should despair from the Mercy of Allah Almighty in any condition. Only those people can be hopeless who do not believe in Allah Almighty. Believers see unto the Mercy and Omnipotence of Allah Almighty always.

It is the lesson from Prophet Jacob (peace be upon him) which He taught to the Believers of Allah Almighty, and the Holy Qur’an saved it for always.

Preaching of patience - Quran Chapter 12 – 85 & 86 (Pt-13, Stg-3) (L-1534) - درس قرآن

Quran Chapter 12  85 & 86 (Pt-13, Stg-3) (L-1534) - درس قرآن

Preaching of patience

Surah Yuusuf (Joseph) - 12

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast.)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.)

85.  They said: By Allah, thou wilt never cease remembering Joseph till thy health is ruined or thou art of those who perish!

86.  He said: I expose my distress and anguish only unto Allah, and I know from Allah that which ye know not.
85.  Qaaluu  tAllaahi  tafta-‘u  tazkuru  Yuusufa  hattaa  takuuna  harazan  ‘aw  takuuna  minal-haa-likiin.

86.  Qaala  ‘innamaaa  ‘ashkuu  bassii  wa  huzniii  ‘ilAllaahi  wa  ‘a’-lamu  minAllaahi  maa  laa  ta’-lamuun.

Commentary

Tafta-‘u – (you will never cease), it is an unsound verb which has come out from the word fata’Fata’ means “to give up, to get out of the way”.

Harazan – (breathless, weak), the person who becomes a skeleton due to away from any disease, grief or sorrow, is called haraza.

Bassun – (boundless restlessness and distress), such grief, which increases so much that control over it becomes difficult.

At that time, the name of Joseph (peace be upon him) came out from the mouth of His father – Jacob (peace be upon him) with a sigh in impotence, and His sons conjectured about His grief and sorrow. Then they said: assuredly you will pass away due to grief of Joseph (peace be upon him) and you will not leave remembering Him till death.

Jacob (peace be upon him) said: I expose my distress unto Allah Almighty only, not unto any other. I present my restlessness, grief and pain before Him only. I am not hopeless from His Pity. My heart has been saying that He, The Most Merciful of the merciful will have mercy on my condition and one day, I shall see Joseph (peace be upon him) and then, we shall live altogether. Allah Almighty has described me that, which you do not know. Those, who trust in Allah Almighty wholeheartedly; are never deprived of His Mercy.

Commentary

Prophet Jacob (peace be upon him) had been suffering a great shock due to separation (misinformation) of his son Joseph (peace be upon him). Now, when brothers of Joseph returned from Egypt without Binyamin again (as they returned earlier without Joseph), then that grief was refreshed, and He (peace be upon him) felt reflection of their delusion or at least carelessness in this story. He (peace be upon him) said: You have been beguiling once again. Patience is better for me even now too. I hope that, by the Grace of God Almighty, my all three sons, who have been separated from me at this time, shall see me. Saying this, He {Jacob (peace be upon him)} turned away from them and first time, it came out from His mouth being Himself out of reach: Alas, my grief for Joseph!

At that time, He had been suppressing His grief and sorrow in His heart, but did say nothing else by His tongue. Moreover He (peace be upon him) used to shed a flood of tears, due to which His eyes had been whitened and it became difficult for Him to see anything.

Quran Chapter 12  81 & 82 (Pt-13, Stg-3) (L-1532) - درس قرآن

Coming before Father

Surah Yuusuf (Joseph) - 12

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast.)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.)

81.  Return unto your father and say: O our father! Lo! Thy son hath stolen. We testify only to that which we know; and we are not guardians of the Unseen.

82.  Ask the township where we were, and the caravan with which we traveled hither. And lo! We speak the truth.
81.  ‘Irji-‘uuu  ‘ilaaa  ‘abii-kum  faquuluu  yaaa-‘abaa-naaa  ‘in-nab-naka  saraq.  Wa  maa  sha-hid-naaa  ‘illaa  bimaa  ‘alimnaa  wa  maa  kunnaa  lil-gaybi  haa-fi-ziin.

82.  Was-‘alil-qar-yatal-latii  kunnaa  fii-haa  wal-‘iiral-latiii  ‘aqbalnaa  fiihaa.  Wa  ‘innaa  la-saa-diquun.

Commentary

Sha-hid-naaa – (we testified), it is a past tense from the word Sha-haadah. This word has been explained earlier. It means: “to be present and describe according to own knowledge”.

In short, the eldest brother stayed in Egypt and he advised remaining other brothers that they should return unto their father and say to him: Your son has stolen and arrested. Which undertaking we gave to you that “we shall bring him back”, we did not know at that time that Binyamin would steal. We were unaware of the Unseen. Even we explained about the penalty of the thief also before the ruler of Egypt. If you do not have confidence in us, you may inquire from that place where we stayed in Egypt. Those all people know. And with which caravan we traveled, they are here and they know too the entire incident. You can ask them. You will be informed that whatsoever we have been saying; is quite correct. This matter was happened before all openly. There is nothing hidden in it.

Consultation

Surah Yuusuf (Joseph) - 12

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast.)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.)

80.  So when they despaired of (moving) him, they conferred together apart. The eldest of them said: Know ye not how your father took an undertaking from you in Allah’s name and how ye failed in the case of Joseph aforetime? Therefore I shall not go forth from the land until my father giveth leave or Allah judgeth for me. And He is the Best of Judges.
80.  Falammas-tay-‘asuu  minhu  khalasuu  na-jiy-yaa.  Qaala  ka-biiru-hum  ‘alam  ta’-lamuuu  ‘anna  ‘abaa-kum  qad  ‘akhaza  ‘alay-kum-maw-siqam-mi-nAllaahi  wa  min-  qablu  maa  farrat-tum  fii  Yuusuf.  Falan  ‘abra-hal-‘arza  hattaa  ya’-zana  liii  ‘abiii  ‘aw  yahku-mAllaahu  lii.  Wa  Huwa  Khayrul-haaki-miin.

Commentary

Na-jiy-yan – (those who talk quietly), it is an adjective from na-ja-wa. The word najwaa has come out also from the same which means “to talk silently”. Najii and najwaa; both are used for the both “singular and plural” in Arabic language.

When Joseph (peace be upon him) dismissed their case, then all brothers began to think and discuss with one another that “what should we do now?” The eldest brother said: You know well that our father took an undertaking from all of us and witnessed to God Almighty that we will bring back Binyamin without fail. You also know that before this, we have been proved false in the case of Joseph (peace be upon him). Behold my brothers! I shall not leave this land until our father call me back at home or Allah Almighty judge for me.

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

78. They said: "O ruler of the land! Lo! he hath a very aged father; so take one of us instead of him. Lo! we behold thee of those who do kindness.

79. He said: Allah forbid that we should seize save him with whom we found our property, then truly we should be wrongdoers.

Commentary

If Joseph (peace be upon him) were irascible like His brothers, He would have beaten them unmannerly. At that time, He (peace be upon him) was performing as a ruler and was able to get them punished in accordance with own will. But His foresight and patience worked here also as usual. Beholding this, His brothers began to flatter and said: in fact; his (Binyamin’s) father is very aged and weak. So kindly! Take any one of us instead of him and let him go.

Prophet Joseph (peace be upon him) said: Allah Almighty protect Me from such injustice. How can I arrest lawfully any other than he, from whom the stolen property has been recovered? If I did so, I would be counted in wrongdoers, and breaking of law would be written in My name.
