The Book of Allah Almighty

Surah ‘Al-‘An-‘aam (Cattle) – Chapter – 6)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

91a.  And they did not have a true estimation of Allah’s Glory when they said: Allah hath naught revealed unto a human being. Say (unto the Jews who speak thus) : Who revealed the Book which Moses brought, a Light and Guidance for mankind, which ye have put on parchments which ye show, but ye hide much (thereof),
91a.  Wa  maa  Qada-rUllaaha  haqqa  qadri-Hiii  ‘iz  qaaluu  maaa  ‘anzalAllaahu  ‘alaa  basharim-min-shay’. Qul  man  ‘anzalal-Kitaabal-lazii  jaaa-‘a  bihii  Muusaa  Nuuranw-wa  Hudal-linnaasi  taj-‘aluunahuu  qaraa-tiisa  tubduunahaa  wa  tukhfuuna  kasiiraa.

Commentary

Qadaru – (they valued, appreciated, esteemed), it is in past tense; origin of which is qadrQadr means to examine, to estimate and to fix the value of something. Here it aims “to recognize”.

Qaraa-tiisa – (parchments), it is plural of qartaas, which means “sheet of any paper”.

Lineage of Prophets and Messengers (peace be upon Them) was described in the previous verses and it was known from the description that after creating the mankind, Allah Almighty has established this way of their guidance that His Messengers and Prophets (peace be upon Them) would be born among them from time to time, until the arrival of His last Messenger Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him).

Hearing from the Jews, the Arabian people knew about the Prophets (peace be upon Them). Particularly they were well aware of Prophet Moses (peace be upon Him), but when Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) came and produced before them Holy Qur’aan (the Scripture of Allah Almighty), they denied clearly and said: Allah has never revealed any Book.

They have been replied against their argument, in two ways according to this verse:

1.   Certainly, you believe in Allah Almighty but you are not aware of His Knowledge, Power and Wisdom. Therefore, you do not have a true estimation of Allah’s Glory. He has established according to His philosophy such a way of guidance of the human beings that Prophets (peace be upon Them) would bring His Scripture and teach It to the people.

2.   You have even forgotten (for supporting your false way of life) that you used to believe in Moses (peace be upon Him) as a Messenger of Allah and Torah as a Scripture of Allah Almighty. Remember it and refrain from denying.

It is commanded that these people are unable to estimate the true Epithets of Allah Almighty and deny His Power and Wisdom. Therefore, the words like “Allah did never reveal any Scripture” come out from their mouths. Say (unto the Jews who speak thus): If you believe in Torah then tell! Who revealed that Scripture which was brought by Moses, which was a flambeau of the way of guidance for the people during its time? Now although they show some of Its pages but have hidden maximum of them because either they do not think of It beneficial in disclosing, or they are so much careless about It that they do not even know about them.
