Messenger of God is Lenient with people

Lesson # 479

Messenger of God is Lenient with people

Surah ‘Aali- ‘Imraan (The Family of Imran -3),
Stage– 1, Verse – 159 of 200, Section 17 of 20, (Par – 4)

BisMillaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim
In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful

159.  It is by the Mercy of Allah that thou are lenient with them (O Muhammad), for if thou have been stern and fierce of heart they would have dispersed from round about thee. So pardon them and ask forgiveness for them and consult with them upon the conduct of affairs, so when thou art resolved, then put thy trust in Allah. Lo! Allah loveth those who put their trust (in Him).
159.  Fa-bimaa  Rahmatim-minAllaahi  linta  lahum. Wa law  kunta  fazzan  galiizal-qalbi  lan-fazzuu  min  haw-lik. Fa’-fu  ‘anhum  wastagfir  lahum  wa  shaawirhum  fil-‘amr. Fa-‘izaa  ‘azamta  fata-wakkal  ‘alAllaah. ‘InnAllaaha  yuhibbul-Mutawakkiliin.

Lesson

There was a great negligence from the side of Muslims in the battle of ‘Uhud. So, perhaps Holy Messenger (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam) would have been angry in his heart and he would have intended that he would leave consulting with the Muslims in future. Therefore, Allah Almighty recommended the Muslims in a light style. At first, He declared that they were forgiven, because anger and grief of Holy Prophet (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam) is only for Allah Almighty. Then He commanded, “It is a great Mercy of Allah Almighty that he made his Messenger (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam) so much civil, polite and lenient. If Holy Messenger Muhammad (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam) were stern and fierce of heart, they would have dispersed from round about him. It would not be sure that what behavior he would have adopted in this matter. This nation might not remain assembled around him. If he (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam) would have called to account severely; then they could not come even close due to shame and repentance. In such a way, they would have remained deprived from a great goodness and blessing, and the Unity of Islamic nation would have shattered.

Holy Messenger (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam) ignores their mistakes for their correction. Allah Almighty guides, “Although, Allah Almighty has forgiven them now, however, you should ask Me for their forgiveness for more satisfaction of their hearts. Consult with them for the conduct of necessary affairs. After consultation, when a matter is finalized and Intended solemnly, then all of you should set up on it with perfect trust in Allah almighty, because Allah Almighty loves those people, who put their trust in Him.

Hadrat Ali (May Allah be pleased with him) asked the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam), “O Messenger of Allah! The matter, which we do not find in the Holy Qur’an and your traditions, then which method should we adopt for that?” Holy Messenger (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam) replied, “Consult with only those, who are wise and worshippers of Allah Almighty and do not follow the opinion of anyone else”. The importance of mutual consultation has been disclosed by this verse and Hadith.
