Demand of portent

‘A-‘uu-zu
Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast.)
Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.
(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.)

وَيَقُولُونَ لَوْلَآ أُنزِلَ عَلَيْهِ ءَايَةٌ مِّن رَّبِّهِۦ فَقُلْ إِنَّمَا ٱلْغَيْبُ لِلَّهِ فَٱنتَظِرُوٓا۟ إِنِّى مَعَكُم مِّنَ ٱلْمُنتَظِرِينَ 20

20. And they say: Why
is not a portent sent down upon him from his Lord! Then say (O Muhammad): The
Unseen belongeth to Allah; so wait! Lo! I am waiting with you.

20. Wa
yaquu-luuna law-laaa ‘unzila ‘alayhi
‘Aayatum-mir-Rabbih. Faqul ‘Innamal-Gay-bu Lillaahi
fantaziruu. ‘Innii ma-‘akum minal-munta-ziriin.

Commentary
The disbelievers said: Qur’aan desires
to run any new Religion, separate from our religion. As a reply; it is
commanded that there was one Religion for the human beings in the beginning.
Afterwards, the people created their separate religions by marring that
one. Qur’aan teaches the actual Religion and I (Muhammad
–grace, blessings and peace be on Him) am Messenger of Allah Almighty.
I have been instructed that I should
cause to hear you the Qur’aan, cause to understand you its meanings
and show you by acting upon its commandments myself. Hence they said: Show us
any uncommon portent; if you are Messenger. Then we shall know that really you
are a Messenger.
The same has been answered in
this verse. It is commanded: these people demand an extraordinary portent in
accordance with their own wish and say: If He (grace, blessings and peace be on
Him) is a Messenger, it is compulsory for Him to bring any unusual portent by
requesting his Lord, otherwise, how should we believe that He is a Messenger?
Allah Almighty commanded: Reply to them: Sufficient portents of
My truth have been manifested for the sensible people. The Believers believe
that I am a true Messenger; by observing those portents. You will behold in
future, what happens from the Unseen Screen. Allah Almighty will allow this
Religion to prevail over all. The disbelievers will be perplexed. OK. If you do
not believe, then wait! I am waiting with you also.
