Commentary
Madad-Naa – (We
have spread), it is past tense from the word mad-dun. Mad-dun means
“to spread, to extend till the end”. One other meaning of the word madad is
“to help, to give a possessive thing to someone else for supporting him in his
necessity”.
It is commanded that at first,
you should behold that the amplitude of the earth is astonishing. It is not
easy to spread it far away, everywhere. Moreover, because it’s plain surface is
of soft clay, so it is not firm. For its halt and strength, high and firm hills
have been placed, so that due to their firmness and weight, the earth may not
tremble. Then, Allah Almighty produces things of various sorts, many of which
provide you necessities of life and many having life are such things,
livelihood of which does not depend on you, for example cattle, beasts and
quadruped etc. They pass their life separately, and you reap advantage from
many of them.
Whether this most organized
earthly system has been running itself? Nay! But it is invention of One Knower
and Wise, Creator and Lord of the earth and the heavens, Who established every
thing at its proper place, and arranged for its stability and firmness up to a
fixed period. Whether, can you not understand Him by considering thoughtfully
into them, Who created and preserved such things?
