Commentary

Those people who see the amazing manufacturing of the world; but do not know Him Who established it; their sense has gone astray and is bondage in a narrow circle. Two windows of that jail i.e. eye and ear open only towards that direction, towards which; there are relishes and lusts of the world. In a corner of that prison, there is a specified door, from which, a path leads to Flower Garden of the Spirit. Their sense does not march toward that side, because they have irons of wishes on their necks, handcuffs of worldly comfort on their hands and fetters of lustful desires on their feet. While it is the condition of their sense in the world, then certainly they will be produced before Allah Almighty as Infidels on the Day of Resurrection. The same irons, hand-cuffs and fetters (made of iron) will be put on their necks, hands and feet respectively. And then it will be commanded: Drive them unto the Hell in the same condition. Tightened in these hindrances, they will be burnt for ever.

Commentary

In this verse, it has been caused to draw attention of the human being unto reproduction after death. It is commanded: O Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him)! If you wonder on their denial of the life after death, then truly; it is a wondrous thing, because it is not difficult for Him to reproduce, Who (Omnipotent) produced the mankind first time. New things are produced every time from the dust, then those are damaged. After that, Allah Almighty reproduces them again with His Divine Power.

Idolaters of Makkah used to pretend always in a new way for disbelieving the Messenger-hood of Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him). Their main evasion was that: You teach us that the mankind will be reproduced after death, but the sense does not accept it. Such objection of theirs has been mentioned in this verse that: They say! Can we then forsooth be reproduced as a renewed creation; when we have been dust?

They are being replied in these words: After thinking about the wonders of the earth and the heavens and beholding that in the earth, countless things are produced and ruined by the Omnipotence of Allah Almighty and then, again those are reproduced in the same form and shape, in which those were earlier. So it is very wondrous to have doubt in reproduction of the human beings.

4b.  ‘Inna  fii  zaalika  la-‘Aayaatil-li-qaw-miny-ya’-qiluun.

Commentary

The actual aim of the human life is that he should know Allah Almighty (his Creator). Without knowing Him, his life is nothing save; it would be real collection of a few hours’ misty plans of frail pleasures and some up-roars of grief and calamities. There is none but Allah Almighty, Who guides his passions unto the right path, fulfills his hopes, Supporter of his desires, Companion of his solitude, Protector of his heart, Animator in despair and Helpmate in difficulties – in short, his Friend, Watching and Looking after in every condition.

A wise person will certainly seek knowledge about saving his Belief during fierce and fast cyclones of calamities, after hearing stories of success of the friends of Allah Almighty. It is commanded: If you are desirous to know your Creator, you should reflect in the Revelation of His Word i.e. Verses of Holy Qur’aan. It has been sent by Him for your guidance. Besides this, the heavens, the moon, the sun and stars exist before you. The earth provides you fruits and grains of various sorts, though the land for agriculture and the water for watering are the same, but tastes and colours are different from one another.

Think over all of them carefully. If your sense has been working correctly, you will find countless portents into them, by which you will surely reach two consequences:

1.    God Almighty exists and He has Divine Power.

2.    Mankind too; is one according to his nature; like the earth, but every individual has his separate position. Guidance is the same for all but its influence is different upon every person.

4a.  And in the Earth are neighbouring tracts, vineyards and ploughed lands, and date-palms, like and unlike, which are watered with one water. And We have made some of them to excel others in fruit.
4a.  Wa  fil-‘arzi  qita-‘um-muta-jaa-wiraa-tunw-wa  jannaatum-min  ‘a’-naabinw-wa  zar-‘unw-wa  nakhiilun  sin-waanunw-wa  gauru-  sin-waaniny-yusqaa  bimaaa-‘inw-waahid.  Wa  Nufaz-zilu  ba’-zahaa  ‘alaa  ba’-zin-  fil-‘ukul.

Commentary

Muta-jaa-wiraa-tun – (neighboring tracts), this word is plural of muta-jaa-wira-tun, which is a tense of Feminine Subject (in gram) from the word tajaa-wurun. Origin of it is jawara which means “neighborhood”. Tajaa-wurun means “parts joined with one another”.

All parts of the earth have been connected with one another, but peculiarity of each of them is separate from one another. Some parts are fertile, but some are barren. Some are those in which fruit trees have been planted, but some are of husbandry. At some places, date-palms have been grown – many from one root and one from one root also etc. All trees and crops are watered with one kind of water, but their fruits and grains are separate in taste and shapes from one another. Some are sweet, but some are bitter and of acidity.

Appendage parts of the earth, which are watered with the same water, acquire heat of the same one sun and are found in the same atmosphere, produce many sorts and kinds of their production – show that these are portents of God’s Will and Omnipotence.

Commentary

It has been commanded in the first portion of the verse that the existence of the earth, the mountains and the rivers is a Clear Proof of the Existence of God Almighty. But if you go forth, you will observe that all such things which are useful for you; are produced also into them. Did you ever think that Who creates them? Almost, a mankind can plough in the land, sow the seed and sometimes he waters the crops only, but for more than it; he is quite helpless. It is Allah, The Most High, Who produces fruit from them, and every kind of fruit has been placed in two spouses. One member of it is male and the other is female. One is sweet but the other is citrus etc. Moreover, you should think about the system of the day and the night. The night conceals the day but the day spreads over the night. Can someone be so much foolish that he think: It all happens naturally? No! There are portents in these entire happenings, which can be understood by only such people who are accustomed of thinking and meditating also. Their consideration carries them to the consequence that “Creator of these entire things, and Who connects them with one another is only One – Allah Almighty, Who has preserved this entire series by His Omnipotence.

3a.  Wa  Huwallazii  maddal-‘arza  wa  ja-‘ala  fiihaa  rawaa-siya  wa  ‘anhaaraa.

Commentary

Signs of knowing God Almighty have been spreading everywhere around the human beings. On which side you will look, you will see wonders of His Divine Power, on the condition that, human sense turns his attention to that side. If you see over head, you will observe, the heavens, the sun, the moon and uncountable stars have been disclosing without talking: Our Creator is the Omnipotent.

Notwithstanding this, you see below the sky, the world around you, there are many tokens spread in the earthy management also, which are sufficient for knowing Allah Almighty. You will see, at first, the land which has been spread all around. At various places, there are firms hills in it. Along with them, the streams have been flowing. Think for awhile about all of them that “Who did establish them?” It is not in the power of any other than Allah Almighty that he may create the land and mountains; and cause to flow the rivers. It is an open sign of being found these entire things that their Creator is Allah Almighty, otherwise, you should explain “Who created them?” Does any one exist save Him, who may claim that he has created them?

Go and check an account of every thing in the universe. Test its strength and examine the nature. Absolutely, you will reach this result that in the universe, the most excellent in the world are the things; having life. And among the things having life, human beings are seen ahead from all of them. Because it seems that they are the most intelligent. But any such individual, who is wise, did never claim till today that: I have created the earth.

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.)

2b.  Each runneth unto an appointed term; He plans every affair; He detaileth the Revelations, that haply ye may be certain of the meeting with your Lord.

Commentary

It is commanded: The sun and the moon will continue running according to their appointed term. Those have been working under the system which Allah Almighty has established by His Power and Desire. As Allah Almighty has caused to run the sun and the moon in accordance with an Established Order, like this, He has determined Rules and Regulations for every thing of the universe, according to which every thing has been functioning at its own. God Almighty has manifested the Revelations and Signs of this perfect and astonishing arrangement in detail. For understanding them, He gave sense to the mankind. Then for guidance of the sense to think about the right path, He sent His Messengers (peace be upon them) and revealed Scriptures on them.

Among those Messengers (peace be upon them) and Scriptures, Muhammad is the last Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) and (Holy) Qur’aan is the last Scripture, Verses of which provide full Light for the sense of human being.

It seems from the above mentioned discussion that as Established Orders and Laws are fixed for the world and everything, in the same way, Rules and Regulations have been determined also for the mankind, so they should work thoughtfully in accord with them.

It appears from the Arrangement of the world that chain of causes is in force here, and their consequences use to appear. Like this, results of human deeds will appear too. But because those results do not appear in the world as a whole, so for them, the Day of Reckoning has been fixed.

Commentary

‘Amadin – (support), such thing on which any other thing is placed, for example pillars on which the roof is fixed.

It is commanded that Allah Almighty has inspired the Holy Qur’aan unto His last Messenger Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) for guidance of the human beings. Therefore, the human beings should know at first Allah Almighty, then they will recognize the value of Qur’aan, High in Dignity. Knowing Allah (God) Almighty is not too much difficult for the intelligent people. When we see over heads, the sky, the sun, the moon and the stars come before our vision. Wise person thinks: Whence have these come? Who did create them? How have they been staying without support?

Consequently, his sense tells him: Certainly, Creator of all things is Allah Almighty; Who is Omnipotent. We observe that the sky has been spreading over us but no pillar or support is visible; on which it has been fixed.

This verse guides us that this decision of the sense is quite right. Allah Almighty created heavens and He, It is Who caused them to stay without visible supports. And He mounted the Throne from where He puts everything of the universe in order. The sun and the moon have been performing their duties by His commandment.

Commentary

It has been commanded by addressing the last Messenger, Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him): These Verses which will you recite in this Chapter, are Verses of a High Dignity Scripture, and this Word; which is being revealed unto you from your Lord, is full of the Truth and Reality. There is nothing doubtful in it. Even then, there are many people who do not believe in it, although its un-fabricated explanations and frank descriptions draw their attention unto themselves. But worldly desires overcome upon them, and casual bloom of this life charms their human passions into itself.

In fact, Holy Qur’aan is a very dignified Book. Its any commandment does not look artificial to the person; who is open-hearted, and his heart declares spontaneously that “indeed, it is the Word of God Almighty”. Those people who do not believe that it is the Scripture of Allah Almighty, in reality, they did not know Him. If we recite the Verses of Holy Qur’aan carefully and behold deeply the Revelations spread in the universe, then we can recognize about Allah Almighty.
