The people of Midian - Quran Chapter 11 – 84 (Pt-12, Stg-3) (L-1445) - درس قرآن

Quran Chapter 11  84 (Pt-12, Stg-3) (L-1445) - درس قرآن

The people of Midian

Surah Huud (Hud) - 11

 ‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast.)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.)

84.  And unto Midian (We sent) their brother Shu’eyb. He said: O my people! Serve Allah; ye have no other God save Him! And give not short measure and short weight; lo! I see you well-to-do, and lo! I fear for you the doom of a besetting Day.
84.  Wa  ‘ilaa  Mad-yana  ‘akhaa-hum  Shu-‘aybaa.  Qaala  yaa-qawmi’-budUllaaha  maa  lakum-min  ‘ilaahin  gay-ruh.  Wa  laa  tanqusul-mikyaala  wal-mii-zaana  ‘inniii  ‘araa-kum  bi-khay-rinw-wa  ‘inniii  ‘akhaafu  ‘alay-kum  ‘azaaba  Yawmim-Muhiit.

Commentary

Khay-run – (in good condition), usually it is taken in the meaning of wealth and property. But khay-run means “every good thing” as wealth, property and good health etc.

Mad-yana – it was a township which was situated near the ‘Uqbah Bay and it was connected with the Sinai Peninsula. There was a forest of trees around it which was called AykahAshaabul Aykah means “the people; who used to live in Jungle”. That part of the land was very verdant and green. Inhabitants were prosperous. This prosperity became reason of their negligence. They forgot their Creator (Allah Almighty) and began to adore verdant, useful and fruity trees. They had become so much greedy that they used to take full payment but give the grain short in measure and short in weight.

Shu’eyb (peace be upon him) was sent unto them as a Prophet so that He should prevent them from such unfairness in dealing and draw their attention unto Allah Almighty, because root of evil in the human being is due to carelessness from Allah Almighty. As much the people believe in Allah Almighty, so much they are saved from the sins.

Prophet Shu’eyb (peace be upon him) also caused to turn the attention of His people unto Allah Almighty and guided them that they should be thankful in the form of His obedience for the prosperity; bestowed by Him. He (peace be upon him) frightened them also from the doom of the Doomsday (which will ruin them) in case; they do not give up dealing short in measure and weight against taking full payment.

Form of punishment - Quran Chapter 11 – 82 & 83 (Pt-12, Stg-3) (L-1444) - درس قرآن

Quran Chapter 11  82 & 83 (Pt-12, Stg-3) (L-1444) - درس قرآن

Form of punishment

Surah Huud (Hud) - 11

 ‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast.)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.)

82.  So when Our commandment came to pass We overthrew (that township) and rained upon it stones of clay, one after another-

83.  Marked with fire in the providence of thy Lord (for the destruction of the wicked). And that is not far off from the wrongdoers.
82.  Fa-lammaa  jaaa-‘a  ‘amru-Naa  ja-‘alNaa  ‘aali-yahaa  saafi-lahaa  wa  ‘amtar-Naa  ‘alay-haa  hijaa-ratum-min  sijjii-lim-manzuud.

83.  Mu-sawwa-matan  ‘inda  Rabbik.  Wa  maa  hiya  minaz-zaalimiina  bi-ba-‘iid.

(Section 7) (Part One-Half)

Commentary

Manzuudin – (one after another), it is an Object/passive, which has come out from na-za-daNa-za-da means “to lay down by keeping upon one another or to connect with one another by keeping side by side. Manzuud means “layers of clay laid on one another and hardened”.

Mu-sawwa-matan – (marked with fire), it is also an Object, origin of which is “tas-wiim” and which has been derived from sa-wa-maSawama means “a sign and mark”. Taswiim means “to mark and to make a sign”.

At last; time of punishment for the folk of Lot (peace be upon him) came to pass. The Angels (peace be upon them) picked up their all townships and then threw on the same place with the face down. After that they rained upon them stones which were made of pebbles; on which layers of clay had been hardened. Allah Almighty had made signs on them separately.

These unruly people of Arab should think about the end of that folk and consider it a warning for themselves. Those townships were not away from them and now; at the place of those townships, there is Dead Sea, which comes in the way between Madinah and Syria.

From this verse, the Scholars of Muslim laws have taken that whosoever will commit a sin like them, his punishment is that “Let a wall fall on him or kill him by stoning”.

Commentary

The Angels (peace be upon them) were saying to Prophet Lot (peace be upon him): you should not be worried from such actions of these people. We have witnessed their immodesty and lewdness. They are so much fearless and courageous that they wish to rush in your house by breaking the door and jumping over the wall. They are entirely ignorant. They were given respite till now so that, limit of their insistence may be known, and it may also be beheld that whether any of them comes out as a wise or otherwise.

Now it has been clear that these people are verily; very refractory and intrepid. They neglect all before their stubbornness. Certainly their evil days have begun. The Angels said: The time of their destruction has been fixed i.e. the morning of today. And now there remains not too much time of being dawn. Therefore you should get ready for departure from here. At this time, we repel them according to the command of Allah Almighty. However, you have been commanded that you should move out of these villages along with your children and go forth towards the forest directly, in such condition that none of you should see behind.

Remaining part of instruction has been mentioned in this verse that Prophet Lot (peace be upon him) and members of his family flew from that place before starting of the morning without looking back. So they all were saved but His wife who; either did not move with them or who saw behind, was seized in the same disaster; by which her entire folk was hunted.

Consummate confusion - Quran Chapter 11 – 80 & 81a (Pt-12, Stg-3) (L-1442) - درس قرآن

Quran Chapter 11  80 & 81a (Pt-12, Stg-3) (L-1442) - درس قرآن

Consummate confusion

Surah Huud (Hud) - 11

 ‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast.)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.)

80.  He said: Would that I had strength to resist you or had some strong support (among you)!

81a.  (The messengers) said: O Lot! Lo! We are messengers of thy Lord; they shall not reach thee, so travel with thy people in a part of the night,
80.  Qaala  law  ‘anna  lii  bikum  Quwwa-tan  ‘aw  ‘aawiii  ‘ilaa  ruknin-  shadiid.

81a.  Qaaluu  yaa-Luutu  ’innaa  Rusulu  Rabbika  lany-yasiluuu  ‘ilay-ka  fa-‘asri  bi-‘ahlika  bi-qit-‘im-minal-lay-li

Commentary

‘Aawiii – (had any shelter), origin of this word is ‘a-wa’ya, which means “to take shelter”.

Ruknun – (support, pillar, prop), ruk-nun is the thing which provides support to other thing for standing firmly, for example – a pillar, a column; a post etc. ere it aims “a tribe”.

‘Asri – (Travel!), it is a word of command from ‘israa-‘un‘Israa-‘un means “traveling at night”. Origin of this ward is sa-ra-yaSar-yun means “to spread quietly”. A word saraa-yat is also from the same, which means “passing from one thing to another”.

Lot (peace be upon him) was appointed as a Prophet and sent unto a territory of Jordan. He married to a woman of that tribe, unto which He was sent, but she was also follower of own tribe. After observing tyrannies of the tribe, due to grief in abundance, Lot (peace be upon him) said: Would that I had a big tribe of my own here and I would have taken shelter of my people!

When the Angels (messengers – peace be upon them) saw that the wicked people have been teasing God’s Prophet (peace be upon him) severely, they said: (Think not about us, we are Angels; sent by Allah Almighty. Neither can they reach us and nor you. Then they said: You should depart from this village and travel at tonight along with your children.

Being out of one’s wits

Surah Huud (Hud) - 11

 ‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast.)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

78b.  He said: O my people! Here are my daughters! They are purer for you.  Beware of Allah, and degrade me not in (the presence of) my guests. Is there not among you any upright man?

79.  They said: Well thou knowest that we have no right to thy daughters, and well thou knowest what we want.
78b.  Qaala  yaa-qawmi  haaa-‘ulaaa-‘i   banaatii  hunna  ‘at-haru  lakum  fatta-qUllaaha  wa  laa  tukh-zuuni  fii  zay-fii.  ‘A-laysa  minkum  rajulur-rashiid.

79.  Qaaluu  laqad  ‘alimta  maa  lanaa fii  banaa-tika  min  haqq.  Wa  ‘innaka  la-ta’-lamu  maa  nuriid.

Commentary

Prophet Lot (peace be upon him) has been causing to understand them: Pare the nails of some of your senses. Have you become mad totally? There are many women in the folk. God Almighty has fixed the way of fulfilling own desires. Unite in matrimony with them and live like human beings. Do you not fear Allah Almighty? Do you want to disgrace me by annoying my guests? Is there not among you any upright man who may teach you humanity?

They said: We have no right to the women. You are aware of our wish. We will do certainly that which we want. We don’t obey your command.

Prophet Lot (peace be upon him) heard the answer of his folk! When a mankind becomes blind due to own wishes, nothing is seen to him and he becomes like Satan, an evil spirit. Neither he bears good works and their rewards in mind, and nor he thinks about evil deeds and their punishment. It is called “Evil Days”.
