Chapter ‘Al-‘A’raaf (The Heights) – Surah – 7)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

75.  The chieftains of his people, who were scornful, said unto those whom they despised, unto such of them as believed: Know ye that Salih is one sent from his Lord? They said: Lo! In that wherewith he hath been sent we are believers.

76.  Those who were scornful said: Lo! In that which ye believe we are disbelievers.
75.  Qaalal-mala-‘ullaziinas-takbaruu  min  qawmihii  lil-laziinas-tuz-‘ifuu  liman  ‘aamana  minhum  ‘ata’-lamuuna  ‘anna  Saaliham-mursalum- mir-Rabbih.  Qaaluuu  ‘innaa  bimaaa  ‘ursila  bihii  Mu’-minuun.

76.  Qaalal-laziinas-tak-baruuu  ‘innaa  billaziii  ‘aaman-tum-  bihii  kaafi-ruun.

Commentary
The folks of Prophets Noah and Hud (peace be upon Them) did not demand any miracle from their Messengers. The first nation (of Noah) did not attend Him saying: You have gone astray. The second nation ‘Aad (the tribe of Hud) continued their work of mocking Him and saying Him unwise.

But the tribe Thamud called for an extraordinary thing from their Prophet Salih (peace be upon Him) and considered that He (peace be upon Him) will not be able to do it and they will set free His Command. They could not understand that the human being cannot get rid so easily after coming in the world.

There is only one form of escaping that one should believe and obey the Messengers (peace be upon Them). If one will run upon the paths self-invented by giving up the Guidance of Messengers, certainly, he will suffer its retribution in the world later or sooner, as well as, be answerable on the Day of Resurrection also.

The foolish people of Thamud demanded from Salih (peace be upon Him): A she-camel should come out from this mountain. It was not difficult for the Omnipotence of Allah Almighty. The she-camel came out and they were involved in difficulty. Now they were responsible for its food and safety.

There was not sufficient quantity of food and water for the cattle in the mountain area. The she-camel used to dissipate entire feed and water, and their own cattle etc. remained hungry. However, necessitous people derived benefit that the milk of she-camel was in sufficient quantity for them.

It is commanded that when the chieftains saw the public that they have believed in Prophet Salih (peace be upon Him) and now they were prosperous, they asked from the people: Do you consider that the claim of Salih (peace be upon Him) is true that He is a Messenger sent by Allah Almighty? They replied: Observing so much big proof, you have known too that He is a Messenger (peace be upon Him), but you are fraud, whereas we like the truth. We have faith in His Sayings sincerely and believe that verily He (peace be upon Him) is Messenger of Allah Almighty. No answer was visible from those disobedient chieftains, but they tried to frighten in the presumption of their chieftainship and said: Believe then. Your belief will be nothing. Salih (peace be upon Him) cannot succeed as far as we don’t accept Him. Listen! We do not accept His every word.
