Hypocritical whispers

Lesson # 474

Hypocritical whispers

Surah ‘Aali- ‘Imraan (The Family of Imran -3),
Stage– 1, Verse – 154b of 200, Section 16 of 20, (Par – 4)

BisMillaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim
In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful

154b.  While (the other) party, who were anxious on their own account, thought wrongly of Allah, the thought of ignorance. They said: Have we any part in the cause? Say (O Muhammad): The cause belongeth wholly to Allah.
154b.  Wa  taaa-‘ifatun-  qad  ‘ahammat-hum  ‘anfusuhum  yazunnuuna  Billaahi  gayral-haqqi  zannal-jaahiliyyah.  Yaquuluuna  hal-lanaa  minal-‘amri  min-shay’.  Qul  ‘innal-‘amra  kullahuu  Lillaahi.

Lesson

Circumstances of coward and spiritless Hypocrites are being described in this verse, who neither used to care for Islam, nor of the Gracious Messenger (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam), but they used to hold themselves most dear. They were constantly thinking, “How can we save ourselves, lest Army of the Infidels would attack on us again”. How could slumber or sleep come over them in this worry?

Sincere Muslims did not run away from the battlefield even after observing the danger and remained steady and staying with Messenger (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam). To remove their fatigue and tiredness, Allah Almighty prevailed slumber upon them. It produced peace and satisfaction in their hearts. Being refreshed they again stood still before the enemies.

There was a thief in the hearts of Hypocrites. They used to keep their lives dearer than Belief and Islam. They wished to save only their own lives. How slumber could prevail them while false thoughts had encircled their hearts. They said, “Where promises of Allah Almighty have gone? Where is Divine help and victory now? It seems that Islam is near to end now. Messenger (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam) and the Muslims will not be able to go back to their homes now. As it has been described at another place, “Bal  zanantum  ‘allany-yanqali-bar-Rasuulu  wal-Mu’-minuuna  ‘ilaaa  ‘ahliihim  ‘abadaa (Nay, but ye deemed that the Messenger and the believers would never return to their own folks) - Surah: Fat-h (Victory) (section -2).

The Hypocrites used to say, “Nothing is in our control”. Although, hypocrites were true apparently saying such words, really nothing is in the control of any human being. Everything is in the control of Allah Almighty. If He wishes to make something, He may do so and if He wishes to destroy then it is easy for Him to destroy. He can allow one to prevail over others or conquered, either make someone ruler or under control. But the hypocrites were considering something other as its meanings.

al-jaahiliyyah- (like the ignorant), from this word, the life before Islam is also inferred, because at that time, the Arabs neither had awareness of the religion, nor they knew the world. They were entirely ignorant and ill-mannered.

Kindness of Allah Almighty

Lesson # 473
Kindness of Allah Almighty

Surah ‘Aali- ‘Imraan (The Family of Imran -3),
Stage– 1, Verse – 154a of 200, Section 16 of 20, (Par – 4)

BisMillaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim
In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful

154a.  Then after grief, He sent down security for you: as slumber did it overcome a party of you,
154a.  Summa  ‘anzala  ‘alaykum  mim-ba’-dil-gammi  ‘amanatannu- ‘aasany-yagshaa  taaa-  ‘ifa-tam- minkum,

Lesson

There is mention about another favor of Allah Almighty upon the Muslims in this verse. That is to say; in whose portion there was good fortune of martyrdom; they were martyred. The persons, who had to go, they had gone and those people out of them, who were sincere Muslims and remained in the battlefield, form of slumber overcame them. The people began to slumber in the standing position. The sword fell down from the hand of Tal-ha (may Allah Almighty be pleased with him) many times. It was hidden and apparent affect of peace and calmness, which was approaching upon the hearts of the Muslims during such incident causing great riot with the Bounty of Allah Almighty. After this slumbering state, entire fear and confusion of the enemies had gone from their hearts. This condition of slumbering happened at such very time, when the Conquerors of Islam were much tired due to their wounds. Rumors about martyrdom of Messenger (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam) had lost their senses and understanding.

yagshaa  - (overcame). The word gishaawah has come out from it, which means a screen, a curtain, a veil. Here it aims that Allah Almighty took them in the fold of slumber. After prevailing of the slumber over the Muslims, Allah Almighty removed their entire weariness and tiredness, and informed them that the time of fear, perplexity and disappointment has been finished. Now you are entirely in peace. Perform your duty with full satisfaction.

The Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) assembled around the Messenger of Allah Almighty (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam) and established the front for war. They observed very soon that the enemy was running away leaving behind the battlefield. Abdullah ibn Mas-‘uud (may Allah be pleased with him) says, “Overshadowing of the slumber in the very nick of time in the battle was a sign of victory and success from the favors of Allah Almighty”.

It was Bounty of Allah Almighty that He provided security and peace after coming of the narrowness, gave victory while certain defeat was ahead, removed the possibility of subjection and refreshed the Muslims by removing their exhaustion, so that they may bruise the enemies of the Just after getting new spirit. In addition, He inspired with awe of Islam and fear of the Right in the hearts of the Idolaters. It was the reason that the enemies could not face the situation while they had overcome.

If the Believers remain steadfast in their faith and confidence, show the steadiness and patience, then; help and victory from Allah Almighty remains with them always and the enemies of Truth return back on their heels falling short. Actual power and strength in the battlefield of crusade (Jihad) is satisfaction of the hearts and the exaltation of aim and spirit.

Consequence of Messenger’s disobedience

Lesson # 472
Consequence of Messenger’s disobedience

Surah ‘Aali- ‘Imraan (The Family of Imran -3),
Stage– 1, Verse – 153 of 200, Section 16 of 20, (Par – 4)

BisMillaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim
In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful

153.  When ye climbed (the hill) and paid no heed to anyone, while the Messenger, in your rear, was calling you (to fight). Therefore He rewarded you grief for (his) grief, that (He might teach) you not to sorrow either for that which ye missed or for that which befell you. And Allah is Aware of what ye do.
153.  ‘Iz  tus-‘iduuna  wa  laa  talwuuna  ‘alaaa  ‘ahadinw-war-Rasuulu  yad-‘uukum  fiii  ‘ukh-raakum  fa-‘asaabakum  gam-mam-bi-gammil-li-kay-laa  tah-zanuu  ‘alaa  maa  faatakum  wa  laa  maaa  ‘asaabakum.  Wallaahu  khabiirum-bimaa  ta’-maluun.

Lesson

‘Iz  tus-‘iduuna – {When ye climbed (the hill)}. This word has been made from the word Sa-‘uud, which means ‘to climb’. Here it signifies towards a specific scene of the Battle of ‘Uhud. It was the situation when the Idolaters of Makkah assaulted afresh, reaping advantage from error of the archers in the Battle of ‘Uhud, and the Muslims had been running away and climbing the hills. They paid no heed to anyone in the Hurley burley and the perplexity.

At that time, the Messenger of Allah Almighty (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam) was staying as usual at his place and preventing the Muslims from this cowardice and confusion, amd calling towards himself. Eventually, when Ka’b bin Malik (may Allah Almighty be pleased with him) screamed, then they listened, returned and assembled around the Messenger of Allah Almighty (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam).

gam-mam-bi-gammin – (grief for (the) grief). In other words, it may also be explained as ‘grief over grief’. In this sentence, it has been indicated towards that particular condition, when the tokens of defeat were being seen after the victory. The Muslims had grief on one side due to loss of primary victory and sorrow on the other side due to death and being injured of their companions. Their third grief was a bad news becoming famous about the murder of the Messenger (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam) . They had to bear also the loss of the spoils of war. In the stress and strain of such grief, they lost their senses, even that, they could not hear the voice of the Messenger (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam).

Allah Almighty knows the intentions and deals with the affairs according to it. The archers did not wish to disobey, but they considered at their own that, “We have fulfilled the aim of the command of Messenger (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam). Now, while we have got victory, we should also collect the spoils of war”. As though, they did not err intentionally. Therefore, Allah Almighty forgave them.

Trial of Muslims

Lesson # 471
Trial of Muslims

Surah ‘Aali- ‘Imraan (The Family of Imran -3),
Stage– 1, Verse – 152 of 200, Section 16 of 20, (Par – 4)

BisMillaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim
In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful

152.  And Allah verily made good His promise unto you when ye routed them by His leave, until (the moment) when your courage failed you, and ye disagreed about the order and ye disobeyed, after He had shown you that for which ye long. Some of you desired the world, and some of you desired the Hereafter. Therefore, He made you flee from them, that He might try you. And yet certainly He hath forgiven you. And Allah is a Lord of Kindness to believers.
152.  Wa  laqad  sadaqaku-mUllaahu  wa’-daHuuu  ‘iz  tahussuu-nahum-  bi-‘izniH.  Hattaaa  ‘izaa  fashiltum  wa  tanaaza’-tum  fil-‘amri  wa  ‘asaytum-mim-  ba’-di  maaa  ‘araakum-maa  tuhibbuun.  Minkum-many-yuriidud-dunyaa  wa  minkum-  many-yuriidul- ‘Aakhirah.  Summa  sarafakum  ‘anhum  li-Yabtali-yakum.  Wa  laqad  ‘Afaa  ‘ankum.  Wallaahu  Zuu-fazlin  ‘alal-Mu’-miniin.

Lesson

Messenger of Allah Almighty (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam) had described the Muslims before starting of the war in the battlefield of ‘Uhud, “If you will have patience and remain steadfast, then you will get victory and obtain the mastery over the Infidels. Allah Almighty made good His promise in the beginning of the battle”. The Muslims stretched many heaps, slaughtering the Infidels by the Order of Allah Almighty. The Idolaters began to run away from the battlefield being stunned.

When the Muslims felt that they were succeeding and getting victory, they broke in for collection of the spoils of war (the wealth of plunder). In the meantime, the archers committed a serious mistake by disobeying the command of the Messenger of Allah Almighty (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam). When Khalid bin Waliid observed the hill-pass without archers, he reaped advantage and within a few moments, the map of the battle was changed.

The archers began to quarrel with one another. Some of them said, “We should stay here and the others told that there was no need to stay there further. We should also collect the property of plunder (spoils of war)”. At last, their maximum strength left the pass and went away for collection of the spoils of war. Then suddenly the Idolaters attacked from that pass. On the other side, the news regarding execution of the Prophet (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam) became notorious.

Due to these entire circumstances, the weakness was born in the hearts of the Muslims. Resultantly, this cowardice arose. Some people inclined towards worldly wealth and property with pleasure, retribution of which was suffered by all. The Infidels, who were running away recklessly leaving the battlefield to escape, they returned, broke in upon the Muslims. Now the Muslims were running away themselves. The matter inverted due to this shortness, mistake and error. It was also a trial of the Muslims, so that the difference between immature and matured Muslims may be disclosed.

Dignity of Islam

Lesson # 470
Dignity of Islam

Surah ‘Aali- ‘Imraan (The Family of Imran -3),
Stage– 1, Verse – 151 of 200, Section 16 of 20, (Par – 4)

BisMillaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim
In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful

151.  We shall cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve because they ascribe unto Allah partners, for which no warrant hath been revealed. And their habitation is the Fire. And hapless the abode of the wrongdoers.
151.  Sanulqii  fii  quluu-billa-ziina  kafarur-ru’-ba  bimaaa  ‘ashrakuu  Billaahi  maa  lam  yunazzil  bihii  sultaanaa. Wa  ma’-waahumun-Naar. Wa  bi’-sa  maswaz-zaalimiin.

Lesson

The Muslims were caused to receive grievous hurt in the Battle of ‘Uhud and they suffered from confusion, which was a test for them. They were told that they would not be entitled to proceed into the Paradise until they pass through the necessary trials and Allah Almighty does not deem that who have perfect Belief in Him and sacrifice his life in His way.

Now Allah Almighty says, “We shall cast such terror and dignity of yours in the hearts of infidels that they will not have courage to turn back on their heels and attack; despite you are injured and weak. Accordingly, the same happened. Commander-in-Chief of the Infidels’ Army Abu-Sufiaan fled from the battlefield with his Army. In the way, he thought also, “we have left thus a tired and injured Army. Let’s go back and kill them”. But the terror of the Right and the fear of Islam were dropped down as much in his heart, that he could not get courage to act upon his intention. On the contrary, the Muslim crusaders pursued them unremittingly up to “Hamra’- al-Asad” and after that time, they did never provide them any opportunity to happen the incident like ‘Uhud.

In fact, hearts of the disbelievers are weak whether they try hard, because they worship the creature leaving The Creator. Real strength into humankind comes with the help of Allah Almighty, of which the infidels and the disbelievers are deprived. Until the Muslims remained as true Muslims, their threat remained in the hearts of the Infidel. Even today too, in spite of the fall of Muslims, all infidel powers of the world are afraid of this sleeping injured lion. Now there is a dire need that the Muslims should make strong their powers of Belief, call Allah Almighty for help and success, follow the commandments of last Messenger (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam) and get their lost power with effect from the beginning.

Sanulqii (We shall cast), its origin is laqii  and ‘alqaa is its source, which means ‘to cast’, particularly to cast something in the heart. “S” means ‘very soon’.

Sultaanaa (any warrant), usually we use the word Sultan for King, but in Arabic language, it is used for warrant and proof.

Obey not the disbelievers

Lesson # 469
Obey not the disbelievers

Surah ‘Aali- ‘Imraan (The Family of Imran -3),
Stage– 1, Verses – 149 & 150 of 200, Section 16 of 20, (Par – 4)

BisMillaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim
In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful

149.  O ye who believe! If ye obey those who disbelieve, they will make you turn back on your heels, and ye will turn back as losers.

150.  But Allah is your Protector, and He is the best of helpers.
149.  Yaaa-‘ayyu-hallaziina  ‘aamanuuu  ‘in-  tutii-‘ullaziina  kafaruu  yarudduukum  ‘alaaa  ‘a’-qaabikum  fatan-qalibuu  khaasiriin.

150.  BaLillaahu  Maw-laakum.  Wa  Huwa  khayrun-naasiriin.

Lesson

The Muslims had become some poor-spirited. Cause of this casual confusion became because the group of archers, who ignored the Command of the Messenger of Allah Almighty (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam) by leaving the pass of hill. The Infidels and the Hypocrites began to reproach and accuse the Muslims by reaping contraband advantage from this situation and saying, “Behold, if you were true then so many crusader companions of yours would not be slaughtered. You do not obey completely to your Prophet (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam), but you have followed the Messenger (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam) only for the purpose of worldly wealth and the spoils of war.

Some Hypocrites began to admonish the Muslims in the veil of good will, “It’s not wisdom to fight against the Infidels, because you get much loss and damage by their hands. It would be better if you do not dare like this in future”.

It was possible that the Muslims would either be more disappointed from Islam due to these deceits and tricks or consider it as the defeat of Islam instead of their own defeat (let us flee to Allah). Therefore, Allah Almighty warned the Muslims, “Do not be deceived of enemies. They will turn you back on your heels towards the infidelity by reaping contraband advantage from your temporary defeat. If you would be taken in their commands, then you will fall again in that darkness of infidelity; from where Allah Almighty has caused to come you out. Result of which will not be other than loss in the world and in the Hereafter.

The Muslims were persuaded in the previous verse to follow the path of Allah’s friends. That is to say, “Do not turn back on your heels from the religion due to troubles and calamities. Do not leave the steadfastness and patience. Moreover, oppose face to face with your full strength in the Way of Allah Almighty”. In this verse, the Muslims have been prevented from obeying the commands of evil-minded vicious people, so that the Muslims should remain careful and acquainted, and they may understand their profit and loss. Instead of obeying the commands of Infidels and Hypocrites, the Muslims should call Allah Almighty for help, because He is the Best of supporting friends. Therefore, every individual should obey His Command and trust in His help. It is clear that the person, who has gotten the help of Allah Almighty, he does never need the help of God’s enemies.

Supplication of the friends of Allah

Lesson # 468
Supplication of the friends of Allah

Surah ‘Aali- ‘Imraan (The Family of Imran -3),
Stage– 1, Verses – 147 & 148 of 200, Section 15 of 20, (Par – 4)

BisMillaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim
In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful

147.  Their saying was only that they said: Our Lord! Forgive us for our sins and wasted efforts, make our foothold sure, and give us victory over the disbelieving folk.

148.  So Allah gave them the reward of the world and the good reward of the Hereafter. Allah loveth those whose deeds are good.
147.  Wa  maa  kaana  qawlahum  ‘illaaa  ‘an- qaaluu  Rabbanag-fir  lanaa  zunuubanaa  wa  ‘israa-fanaa  fiii  ‘amrinaa  wa  sabbit  ‘aqdaamanaa  wan-surnaa  ‘alal- qawmil-kaafiriin.

148.  Fa-‘aataa-humUllaahu  sa-waabad-dunyaa  wa  husna  sa-waabil- ‘Aakhirah.  Wallaahu  yuhibbul-Muhsiniin.

Lesson

It is being narrated about those goody people (May Allah be pleased with them), who cooperated with the Prophets and the Messengers (peace be upon them) in the Way of Allah Almighty, that they do neither evade to sacrifice their wealth, body and soul, nor show laziness, nor feel weakness, nor they are restrained, and they remain steadfast. Even then, they are not proud. They keep bowing their heads of submission and gratefulness before Allah Almighty. Their method of supplicating in the Court of Allah Almighty is much big proof of their good disposition itself.

They begged most humbly, sincerely with their hearts and respectfully, “O our Lord! ‘Ig-fir  lanaa  zunuubanaa - (conceal our sins and evil doings, put the curtain of Your Mercy on our mistakes and ambiguities, pardon us from our weaknesses and forgive us for our sins). ‘Israa-fanaa  fiii  ‘amrinaa  - (keep our wasted efforts secret also and forgive). Sabbit  ‘aqdaamanaa - (make our foothold sure) bestow on us steadfastness. Wan-surnaa  ‘alal- qawmil-kaafiriin - {and give us victory over the disbelieving folk, who do not believe in You, who are foe of Your Messenger (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam) and who are enemy of Your Religion (Islam)}.

It is ordained as answer of the above-mentioned supplication, “WE gave such people the reward of the world and the good reward of the Hereafter. Allah loves those whose deeds are good”.

Prophets and Their Companions

Lesson # 467
Prophets and Their Companions

Surah ‘Aali- ‘Imraan (The Family of Imran -3),
Stage– 1, Verse– 146 of 200, Section 15 of 20, (Par – 4)

BisMillaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim
In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful

146.  And with how many a Prophet have there been a number of devoted men who fought (beside him). They quailed not for aught that befell them in the Way of Allah, nor did they weaken, nor were they brought low. And Allah loveth the steadfast.
Wallaahu  yuhibbus-Saabiriin.

Lesson

This topic begins from the previous two verses that the Prophets and the Messengers (peace be upon Them) came in the world and passed away. Like this, the Last Messenger, Muhammad (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam) was sent for a prescribed period. But His (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam) religion will remain till the General Resurrection, and the Scripture brought by Him will remain a source of Guidance always for the nations and people of the world.

Therefore, showing weakness and laziness in the matters of religion will be opposite to the wisdom and sense. Those people who exposed broken-hearted after hearing false news about martyrdom of Muhammad (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam) in the Battlefield of ‘Uhud, they wronged. The Religion belongs to Allah Almighty and He is Eternal and Immortal. There is no mortality for Himself.

Continuing the same Series of the Word, there is mention in this verse about the Prophets, the Messengers (peace be upon them) and their good disposition followers (companions) (may Allah be pleased with them). So that the followers of the last Messenger, Muhammad (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam) (Muslim ‘Ummah) may learn from them.

Rib-biyyuuna – (the devoted men), this word has been derived from the word ‘Rabb’ which is an adjective of Allah Almighty. Rib-biyyuun means those people who have relation with their Lord, seekers and lovers of Allah Almighty. The Jews people used to say their scholars as Rabbii, plural of which is Rib-biyyuun.

It is being commanded, “Often it happened that the devotee people and the pious servants of Allah Almighty fought against His enemies supporting the Prophets (peace be upon them). Good or bad, every sort of time comes in the war. Sometimes one group wins and the other is defeated and sometimes opposite to it. But their steadfast feet never trembled. Their spirit and strength were never weakened. They suffered thousand times, but neither they were lazy, nor had shown weakness and nor were they brought down. Allah Almighty keeps such people friends who are steadfast and have stable temperament. The Muslims would have to produce these virtues in to them for becoming beloved of Lord Almighty”.

Commentary on Last Scripture
