Some disbelievers say: We believe in God and the Last Day

Some disbelievers say: We believe in God and the Last Day

Surah ‘Al-‘Baqarah (The Cow) – Chapter – 2)
Stage – 1, Verse – 8 of 286, Section – 2 of 40 (Part - 1)

BisMIllaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

And of mankind are some who say: We believe in Allah and the Last Day, when they believe not.
Wa  minan-naasi  many-ya-quulu  ‘aamannaa  BIllaahi wa bil-Yawmil—‘Aakhiri  wa maahum  bi-mu’-miniin.

Lesson

Until now, two kinds of people have been discussed in the Holy Qur’aan:

1.            Obedient Believers of God’s Law.

2.            Infidels, who denied the law of God.

Now a third kind of people will be mentioned here. These people are enemies also and opposite of Islam. But they hide their infidelity and enmity by deception which they have in their hearts, and claim faith in Islam. In the phrase of Holy Qur’aan, they are called Hypocrites. If a person proclaims by his tongue that Islam is a good religion, but hides that evil and infidelity, which he has in his heart, is Hypocrisy.

When Islam proclaimed fidelity of belief in Allah and belief in the Hereafter, it was necessary for him who wanted to become a Muslim, he would have agreed to these both faiths. So, from the people of Madinah, a special group declared themselves about having belief in both faiths and desired to join the Muslims by cheating. They were included in Muslims but they were not sincere. It was necessary to be saved from their trick. Therefore, Holy Qur’aan informed the Muslims itself that they didn’t believe in these fidelity by heart. Muslims should be cautious from them (hypocrites).

It is known that sign of hypocrite was “claiming their faith in these fidelity by their tongue, but their hearts were not agree”. If, nowadays too, someone hasn’t the same outward appearance and inward qualities, then he should count himself. As long the tongue and the heart (both) are not alike, the belief cannot be produced, but this condition is of the hypocrisy.

Companions of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon Him) kept themselves always besides their nobility and excellence. That is why; they were on the higher degrees of belief and sincerity. Allah Almighty bestowed them higher ranks and favored them with success.

When Holy Prophet (peace be upon Him) migrated from Makkah to Madinah, the people were going to appoint ‘Abdullah bin Ubai bin Salool’ (a person of tribe ‘Khizraj’) Chief of the city. He was a clever and collusive person. Due to migration of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon Him), the matter of crown-wearing ceremony was suspended. Everyone desired to appoint the Holy Prophet (peace be upon Him) Chief of Madinah.

Abdullah observed it but remained silent. He took it wisdom not to raise any sound against Islam and Holy Prophet (peace be upon Him). So he became Muslim and his companions also by their tongue only. But they were waiting for the situation to give up Islam and opposing the Holy Prophet (peace be upon Him).
As the time was passing on, the effect of Islam was increasing. And jealousy of these people was also springing. Their enmity was increasing too. So whenever they got any chance, they opposed Islam and deceived the Holy Prophet (peace be upon Him). They proved themselves domestic enemies. Although they used to offer prayers following the Holy Prophet (peace be upon Him) but opposed Islam. They constructed their separate mosque. Allah Almighty called that mosque “Masjiduz-Zaraar”. They left the Muslims in the Battle of ‘Uhud’ at the time of encounter.

Today too, Islam has been facing biggest danger from that kind of Muslims. It means; the people, who use the word “Islam” for themselves apparently, choose their names like Muslims, live with Muslims, but they have infidelity in their hearts and for opposing the Muslims they get help of the infidels.
