Limit of haughtiness - Quran Chapter 11 – 91 (Pt-12, Stg-3) (L-1450) - درس قرآن

Quran Chapter 11  91 (Pt-12, Stg-3) (L-1450) - درس قرآن

Limit of haughtiness

Surah Huud (Hud) - 11

 ‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast.)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.)

91.  They said: O Shu’eyb! We understand not much of that thou tellest, and lo! We do behold thee weak among us. And were it not out of regard of your tribe, we would have stoned thee, for thou art not strong against us.
91.  Qaaluu  yaa-Shu-‘aybu  maa  naf-qahu  kasii-ram-mim-maa  taquulu  wa  ‘innaa  lana-raaka  fiinaa  za-‘iifaa.  Wa  law-laa  rahtuka  larajam-naak.  Wa  maaa  ‘anta  ‘alay-naa  bi-‘aziiz.

Commentary

Behold! How Prophet Sh’eyb (peace be up[on him) has been causing to understand by different ways. Sometimes He (peace be up[on him) says: Reflection of own greatness is an insanity. Mankind should live with civility and have faith that any other individual can be better than me in every matter. Sometimes He causes to draw attention of the people: You have seen the head of pride ashamed. Before you, many heroes have died, while you are nothing.

Now let’s hear the answer of His (peace be up[on him) folk. They say: O Shu’eyb (peace be up[on him)! We do not understand much of that which you tell us. We know well what you are. You are weaker than us. The members of your family are our companions. We have been hindered because of them; otherwise we would have killed you by stoning. We consider that you are not a respectable person for us.

It is the vain pride of a human being. When a mankind gets some power, he begins to talk in such a way: While any individual can make not the slightest noise before me, then why should I hear those who stand unnecessarily to give advice? Who are they to teach me? I can ruin them in moments if I wish. However, I just think that connection with their close relatives will be cut; otherwise they would have been killed a long time ago.

Thoughtful prudence - Quran Chapter 11 – 89 & 90 (Pt-12, Stg-3) (L-1449) - درس قرآن

Quran Chapter 11  89 & 90 (Pt-12, Stg-3) (L-1449) - درس قرآن

Thoughtful prudence

Surah Huud (Hud) - 11

 ‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast.)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.)

89.  And, O my people! Let not the schism with me cause you to sin so that there befall you that which befell the folk of Noah or the folk of Huud, or the folk of Saalih. And the folk of Lot are not far off from you.

90.  Ask pardon of your Lord, then turn unto Him (repentant). Lo! my Lord is Merciful, Loving.
89.  Wa  yaa-qawmi  laa  yajri-manna-kum  shiqaa-qiii  ‘any-yusii-bakum-mislu  maaa  ‘asaa-ba  qawma  Nuuhin  ‘aw  qawma  Huudin  ‘aw  qawma  Saalih.  Wa  maa  qawmu  Luutim-minkum  bi-ba-‘iid.

90.  Wastag-firuu  Rabba-kum  summa  tuu-buuu  ‘ilayH.  ‘Inna  Rabbii  Rahiimunw-Waduud.

Commentary

Laa  yajri-manna-kum – (let not cause you to sin), it is a negative tense, which has come out from ja-ra-maJarama means “to earn”. Here it aims “to accuse someone else”.

Waduud – (Loving), this word has been derived from wudda. The word mu-wadda-tun is also from the same origin. Meaning of both words is “to care others, to be good and kind to someone”. It is one of the ninety-nine names of epithets of Allah Almighty.

Prophet Shu’eyb (peace be upon him) is causing to understand his folk by many different ways that: Behold! May be that any disaster come also upon you due to your schism and persistence with me. Before you, many nations were destroyed due to same reason. The folks of Noah, AadThamud and Lot have suffered from punishment of their evil-deeds. You should learn from their circumstances and ask pardon of your Lord against your wicked acts. All of you should bow before Him. My Lord (Allah Almighty) causes to fall His mercy upon those who turn unto Him and repent because He is The Merciful and The Loving to His servants.

Commentary

Prophet Shu’eyb (peace be upon him) said: I don’t know why have you been suffering so much from arrogance that you consider every other individual as nothing before you. Tell me; what is badness in accepting that which I say: Allah Almighty has given me as much sagacity that I have known the Straight Path, and He has bestowed on me such thing which He has not bestowed on you. God Almighty preserve you from it. My aim is not it that I should prevent you from collecting wealth through unfair means, become your chieftain and say to you: “Provide me everything.

It is a wrong way of collecting wealth. I don’t want to choose that way for myself; from which I am going to prevent you. I desire nothing save correction of your condition so far as I am able. It only is my intention, but its fulfillment is in the control of Allah Almighty. If He will desire, it will be fulfilled. I trust in Him only and unto Him I have recourse in all matters”.

Quran Chapter 11  87 (Pt-12, Stg-3) (L-1447) - درس قرآن

Response by the nation

Surah Huud (Hud) - 11

 ‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast.)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.)

87. They said: O Shu’eyb! Doth thy way of prayer command thee that we should forsake that which our fathers (used to) worship, or that we (should leave off) doing what we will with our own property? Lo! Thou art the mild, the guide to right behaviour.
87.  Qaaluu  yaa-Shu-‘aybu  ‘a-salaatuka  ta’muruka  ‘an-natruka  maa  ya’-budu  ‘aabaaa-‘unaaa  ‘aw  ‘an-naf-‘ala  fiii  ‘amwaa-linaa  maa  nashaaa’.  ‘Innaka  la-‘antal-  haliimur-Rashiid.

Commentary

After hearing advice from Prophet Shu’eyb (peace be upon him), His Folk answered. Their response is the same as usually stubborn people like them reply. First of all they treat those people with contempt who advise them for good works, and deride that “You have become abstemious by kneeling in long prayers, sign of which is visible on your forehead. Now you are going to check others, as though; only you are a good person in the world, remaining all people are at wrong”.

Behold for a while! What do those people say after listening to good advice from Prophet Shu’eyb (peace be upon him)! They say! O Shu’eyb (peace be upon him)! Eventually your long prayers bloomed. Have you come as a mild adviser for us and give us advice that we should leave traditions of our forefathers, worship of idols is useless? Do you want to say that our forefathers were mad? Are you only born wise in the world? You are fond of becoming our leader. You say that we should be honest in financial matters, very good! Do we not have power over our own property? Should we leave off doing what we will with our own wealth?

You {Shu’eyb (peace be upon him)} say that our every work can be managed by your advice. Have you only remained a prudent person living in the world? Are you only a virtuous, and remaining all people are vagabond and rake? Stop it! Keep your attention fixed on your prayers. Don’t interfere in our matters.

Give up committing evils - Quran Chapter 11 – 85 & 86 (Pt-12, Stg-3) (L-1446) - درس قرآن

Quran Chapter 11  85 & 86 (Pt-12, Stg-3) (L-1446) - درس قرآن

Give up committing evils

Surah Huud (Hud) - 11

 ‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast.)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.)

85.  And O my people! Give full measure and full weight in justice, and wrong not people in respect of their goods and do not act corruptly in the earth, making mischief.

86.  That which Allah leaveth with you is better for you if ye are believers, and I am not a keeper over you.
85.  Wa  yaa-qawmi  ‘awful-mik-yaala  wal-mii-zaana  bil-qisti  wa  laa  tab-khasun-naasa  ‘ash-yaaa-‘ahum  wa  laa  ta’-saw  fil-‘arzi  muf-sidiin.

86.  Ba-qiyya-tUllaahi  khay-rullakum  ‘in-  kuntum-  Mu’-miniin.  Wa  maaa  ‘anaa  ‘alaykum-  bi-Hafiiz.

Commentary

Laa  tab-khasuu – {Do not wrong, give not less (than the right)}. It is a negative tense from the word ba-kha-sunBa-khasun means “to subtract, to lessen, to reduce”. It aims “you should not violate anyone’s right”.

Laa  ta’-saw – (Do not act corruptly), it is also a negative from ‘a-sa-ya, which means “to arrogate, to commit a riot, to quarrel”.

Those people, not only, used to give short measure and short weight, in addition, it was also their habit that they used to harm other people in other matters for reaping advantage. Even they were habitual of plundering and committing robbery also. They used to kill such person who did not use to give them easily, not due to the reason that they were poor and it was impossible for them to fill their belly, but for the purpose that; they were desirous to increase (their wealth); whatsoever they had. They were covetous of money and fond of collecting wealth.

Prophet Shu-eyb (peace be upon him) warned them that they should give full measure and full weight in justice at the time of giving the goods to other people, should not make less, earn profit honestly; which would be lawful for them, abide by lawful earnings. If they would do so, God Almighty would bless them. He (pace be upon him) said: I have been appointed for your guidance only. I am not a Keeper over you. It is not my duty to prevent you with force from doing wrong.
