Let not the believers take disbelievers for their friends in preference to believers

Let not the believers take disbelievers for their friends in preference to believers

Surah ‘Aali ‘Imraan (The Family of Imran - 3), Stage – 1,
Verse – 28 of 200, Section – 3 of 20, (Part – 3)
BisMIllaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim
In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful

28.  Let not the believers take disbelievers for their friends in preference to believers. Whoso doeth that hath no connection with Allah unless (it be) that ye but guard yourselves against them, taking (as it were) security. And Allah biddeth you beware (only) of Himself. And unto Allah is the journeying.
28.  Laa yattakhizil-Mu’-mi-nuunal-Kaafiriina  ‘awliyaaa-‘a  min-  duunil-  Mu’-miniin.  Wa  many-yaf-‘al  zaalika  fa-laysa    minAllaahi  fii shay-‘in  ‘illaaa  ‘an-tattaquu  minhum  tuqaah. Wa  yuhazziru-kumUllaahu  Nafsah.  Wa  ‘ilAllaahil-masiir.

Lesson

It was described in the previous lesson that Allah Almighty is Able to give honor and sovereignty to whom He desires and Can snatch these things from whom He wills. Each kind of sovereignty and empire, prestige, honor and possession are in His control. Therefore, it does not suit the Muslims, who really believe in Him, if they increase friendship voluntarily or without knowledge with the disbelievers, enemies of God Almighty, and Infidels, leaving their Muslim brothers or considering them not enough. The enemies of God Almighty and His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) can never become their friends. One, who opposes it, should think about himself that he has no concern with the love of Allah Almighty. Entire hopes of a Muslim should be related only to God Almighty.

Three forms of good behavior are possible into the Humankind:
1.   Friendship

2.   Apparent politeness

3.   Kindness and doing well

Religious Scholars have explained that first form, that is to say; the real friendship with the Infidels is unlawful in all conditions. Third form (Kindness and doing well) is legal only with those Infidels who would never be ready to fight against the Muslims. Second form (Apparent politeness) is legal only under three conditions:

  •         For self protection

  •        Trying him to be in Islam

  •          In the form that you are a host, it means that when any Infidel comes to you as a guest.

Besides these three forms, friendship with disbelievers is not allowed anyway to get personal advantage or wealth, but when there is a risk that he will put obstacles in the way of religion even then; no friendship is allowed.

God Almighty frightens the Muslims from His torment who keep friendship with the Infidels; so that they would have to bear in mind that at last; every individual will have to go back unto Him. He will reward or punish in accordance with one’s deeds and it will not be possible to be saved from His grasp.
