First Principles of Islam –
Part-1
1.
Sayyidina Ibn ‘Umar (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
Islam is based five things:-
1. The
testimony, that here is none worthy, of worship except ALLAH, and Muhammad
(SALLALLAAHU-ALAYHI-WA-'AALIHII-WASALLAM)
is HIS Servant and Messenger.
2. The
observance of prayer
3. The
payment of Zakah
4. The
performance of Hajj
5. Fasting
during the month of Ramadan. (Bukhari and Muslim)
1. Sayyidina
Anas (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
If
three things are found in anyone, he will savour the sweetness of faith. They
are that:
a.
ALLAH and HIS Messenger (SALLALLAAHU-ALAYHI-WA-'AALIHII-WASALLAM) are dearer to him than else.
b. He
loves a human being for the sake of ALLAH alone.
c.
After ALLAH has rescued him from dis-belief, he
has as
great a dislike of returning to it as of being cast into Hell. (Bukhari and
Muslim)
3. Sayyidina
Abbas (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
He will
savour the sweetness of faith who is pleased with ALLAH as his LORD, into Islam
as (his) religion and with Muhammad (SALLALLAAHU-ALAYHI-WA-'AALIHII-WASALLAM) as Messenger. (Muslim)
4. Sayyidina
Anas (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
None of you is a Believer until I am (SALLALLAAHU-ALAYHI-WA-'AALIHII-WASALLAM) dearer to him than his
father, his children and all mankind. (Bukhari and Muslim)
5.
Sayyidina Ibn ‘Umar (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
I have been ordered to fight against people till they testify that there is
none worthy of worship except ALLAH and that Muhammad (SALLALLAAHU-ALAYHI-WA-'AALIHII-WASALLAM) is
the Messenger of ALLAH, observe prayer and pay Zakah. So, if they perform
these, then they save their lives and properties from me; except for the laws
of Islam and their reckoning, that will be done by ALLAH alone. (Bukhari and
Muslim)
6.
‘Ubaidah bin as-Samit (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
Give me the pledge that:
You will not associate anything with ALLAH, or steal, or commit fornication, or
kill your children or speak slander forging falsehood, or be disobedient in
doing the approved. As for one of you who fulfils his pledge, ALLAH will reward
him. But as for him who perpetrates any of these things and receives punishment
against it in this world, it will be an expiration for that sin. If one of you
indulges in any of these things and ALLAH conceals it for him, it is in the
HANDS of ALLAH-if HE wishes, HE may forgive him and if HE wishes, HE may punish
him. (Bukhari and Muslim)
7.
Sayyidina Abu Uma’amah (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
If
anyone loves (another) for the sake of ALLAH, hates (HIS enemy) for the sake of
ALLAH, spends for the sake of ALLAH and withholds for the sake of ALLAH then he
has perfected his faith. (Abu Dawood, Mishkat)
8. Sayyidina Abu Hurrayrah & Sayyidina Fadalah (Radi-ALLAHO-An-hom)
A Muslim is one from whose tongue and hand other Muslims are safe. A believer is one whom men do not fear concerning their lives and property. And the mujahid is one who makes jihad with himself so that he obeys ALLAH and the muhajir is one who withdraws from dis-obedience and sin. (Bukhari and Muslim)

9. Sayyidina Abu Uma’amah (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
When your piety pleases you and your bad deed displeases you, you are a believer. (Ahmad and Mishkat)

10. Sayyidina Jabir (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
The best discourse is the Book of ALLAH, and the best guidance is the one shown by Muhammad (SALLALLAAHU-ALAYHI-WA-'AALIHII-WASALLAM). The worst things are bid’ah (innovations) and every innovation is misguidance. . (Muslim and Mishkat)

11. Sayyidina Jabir (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
My example and the message with which ALLAH has sent me is like the example of a man who came to a people and said, “O people! I have seen with my own eyes an army (as want to attack you). I am one to warn you, so flee, flee…” Some of his people obeyed him, and setting off at nightfall walked away and escaped. But some others did not believe him and stayed where they were. When it was dawn, the army came and surrounded them and destroyed them so that they were no more. This is the example of those who obeyed me and of those who belie me. (Bukhari, Muslim and Mishkat)

12. Sayyidina Abu Hurrayrah (Radi-ALLAHO-An-ho)
My example is like a man who has kindled a fire and when it lights up the neighborhood the insects that jump into the fire began to fall into it. He tries to prevent them but they persisted and continued falling into the fire. Thus, I seize you by the hennas of your dresses to pull you from the fire but you keep falling into it. (Bukhari, Muslim and Mishkat)
